Several local organizations are always looking for help. Whether you can work once a month or a few hours a week, giving back to the community always feels rewarding.
Check out these volunteer opportunities near our Cranberry Woods apartments:
MEALS ON WHEELS
Meals on Wheels delivers healthy food to homebound seniors and other disabled residents. Certified professionals prepare the dishes, and clients receive one hot lunch and one cold dinner Monday through Friday.
Volunteers can work in the kitchen or drive one of the routes. Those who make deliveries must have their vehicles and be able to work between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM.
RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE OF PITTSBURGH
A local fixture since 1979, the Ronald McDonald House offers support to families seeking medical treatment for their sick or injured children. The community house features 74 apartments that welcome 1,600 families every year. Visitors can also enjoy common areas, such as the game room, and easy access to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Volunteers play a large role in daily operations. They prepare meals, assemble welcome bags, and help with the family social hour.
ANIMAL FRIENDS
For over 75 years, Animal Friends has been saving the lives of pets in our region. The shelter ensures the well-being of companion animals and provides quality care to animals waiting for their forever homes. No breed or age is ever turned away. Last year, over 2,300 pets were adopted.
The volunteers are invaluable to the shelter's mission. They greet guests, help facilitate low-cost clinics, and walk dogs. Those who wish to work directly with the animals complete a training workshop before beginning their volunteer hours.
